The Internet Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and policymakers about the potential of a decentralized global Internet to promote communications, commerce and democracy.

Tim Lordan

Executive Director and Counsel

tim lordan photoMr. Lordan serves as executive director for the Internet Education Foundation (IEF), a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to educating the public and policy makers about the potential of a decentralized global Internet to promote democracy, communications and commerce. Mr. Lordan joined the IEF in 1999 as the first permanent staff member. The IEF assists the efforts of the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee in educating Congress about the Internet and related policy issues. Mr. Lordan helps coordinate those Internet Caucus Advisory Committee initiatives as well as other public education activities regarding the Internet. In 1999, Lordan helped develop and launch the GetNetWise "one-click" parental empowerment resource and has since launched the "State of the Net" project designed to measure the success of the Internet -- in cultural, socio-political and economic terms.

Since graduating from law school in 1995, Mr. Lordan has amassed a broad range of experience in law, public policy, media relations and political strategizing. Prior to joining the IEF Mr. Lordan served as deputy policy counsel for the Internet Alliance, a Washington-based industry trade association. Mr. Lordan's other posts include: Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, full time consultant for AT&T's Law and Government Affairs Department and WGBH Educational Foundation. A graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Lordan currently resides in Washington, DC.

Jerry Berman

jerry berman photoJerry Berman chairs the Advisory Committee to the Congressional Internet Caucus. He founded IEF in 1997 to help support the efforts of the Caucus Advisory Committee in educating Congress about the Internet and related policy issues.

Mr. Berman is also co-founder and Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT). He coordinates CDT's free speech and privacy policy working groups comprised of communications firms, associations and civil liberties groups addressing Internet policy issues. Mr. Berman coordinated the sucessful Citizens Internet Empowerment Coalition challenge to the Communications Decency Act. Mr. Berman has led legislative efforts to enact such landmark legislation as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986.

Prior to founding CDT, Mr. Berman was a Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Mr. Berman was also Chief Legislative Counsel at the ACLU from 1978-1988 and founder and director of ACLU Projects on Privacy and Information Technology.

Mr. Berman received his BA, MA, and LLB at the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated with honors, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as an editor of the California Law Review at Boalt Law School.

Allison Rodway

Ali Rodway serves as the Program Director for the Internet Education Foundation. Ms. Rodway leads the IEF team on various new projects aimed at bringing complex online safety information to home Internet users. She also facilitates briefings for the Congressional Internet Caucus as part of her work with the Internet Caucus Advisory Committee.

Ms. Rodway began her career in Washington in fundraising for the Women's Campaign Forum, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to electing more pro-choice women to office. Ms. Rodway's legislative experience was acquired through her time spent in Richmond and Alexandria, VA as Legislative Aide to Delegate David Englin. Ms. Rodway is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the Annenberg School of Communication.
