House Takes The Next Step Toward Launching the Congressional App Challenge

House Committee on Administration Passes Regulations for Establishing Competition Rules

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the House Committee on Administration took the next step in launching the Congressional App Challenge by unanimously passing out of Committee regulations governing many aspects of the competition including the use of office resources. The Committee’s actions set the stage for a possible Q1 2014 competition launch.

When launched the Congressional App Challenge could be one of the most ambitious youth coding STEM competitions ever attempted with potentially hundreds of Members hosting competitions in their districts. The Internet Education Foundation (IEF) commends the Committee and its Chair and Ranking Member — Rep. Candice Miller and Rep. Robert Brady — for taking the next steps to inspire youth in America to pursue code and STEM.

IEF is convening a group of advisers this week to discuss how the private sector can contribute educational resources to aid in this effort. We will update the entire Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee in early December on next steps.
